Learnie Red Rocks

Learnie's trails give great views over the Moray Firth

The Red Rock trails at Learnie: 16km of trails for all skill levels, combined with some of the best views from any mountain bike trails, anywhere! There are green, blue, and black graded trails, with a red grade 'Fun Park' and an ungraded dirt jump area.

Even the green grade singletrack is not 'billiard table' smooth - it gives a sufficient challenge for those wanting more than just forest road-type mountain biking. Callachy Hill Climb is a 1.5km of blue-graded climb that will take you to the top of Callachy Hill without too much effort while Callachy down hill gives 1.3km of sheer, blue-graded delight as it twists and turns all the way through the forest.

The fun park is a red-graded trail with large, bermed corners, tabletops and double jumps while Muirhead Climb is another gentle, blue-graded climb. Across the road is Firth View - a blue-graded trail to one of the best viewpoints ever seen from a mountain bike trail and on to the boulder boulevard - a small section of stone which is a good little test.

The black-graded Learnie Hill trail has technical climbs and descents that give the rider a new challenge at every turn. The final section is a fun, swoopy downhill route with some smaller stone features and north shore and to finish, a 10-foot stone-pitched drop from the bank to the road. The nearby Firhill trail is a challenging route for good, technical bikers only - a black-graded route built by hand, mostly by the local HIMBA Bike Club.

Visit the forestry Commission's Learnie pages for more on the Learnie Red Rock trails.
